Dear PoPville

“is it legal to park that far from a sign and take up two spaces?”

“Dear PoPville,

I think space hogs are terrible, but I try to give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe a car that was parked in front or behind them forced them to now take up two spaces.

But every day,

a not-so-friendly neighbor parks about six feet from a parking sign so no one can park in front of him — thus always taking up two parking spaces.

After leaving him multiple (polite) notes asking him to park at the sign, I called 311. Someone there told me it wasn’t legal and had parking enforcement go out to ticket him. But when parking enforcement got there, they (according to the service request) “didn’t observe an infraction.”

PoPville, is it legal to park that far from a sign and take up two spaces? It’s hard to find a spot in my neighborhood and it’s frustrating to see this neighbor take two spots day after day with impunity.”
