From an email:

Cane (403 H Street, NE), the H Street sister restaurant to St. James Modern Caribbean, has recently refreshed their menu with new dishes, marking the most significant menu update since the restaurant opened in 2019.

New menu items include

Salt-fish buljol, a classic Trinidadian dish popular throughout the Caribbean and made with salted cod, chopped tomatoes, hot and sweet peppers and served with bakes, a fried and airy dough perfect for stuffing the fish. Another new addition features Trini-style shrimp wontons, a nod to the island’s influence of Chinese immigrants. The wontons, available during dinner only, are filled with spicy shrimp, deep-fried to perfection and served with a culantro-soy dipping sauce. Other new offerings include hand pies, an English-style pastry that’s fried and stuffed with either spicy beef or fire-roasted eggplant and served with culantro sauce or tamarind mayo, available during lunch and dinner. Hakka-Spiced Pork Ribs are on the dinner menu and served with a garlic-culantro sauce and pickled peppers, with an accompanying bowl of coconut rice. New sides include Pelau, a hearty dish of Trini-style peas and rice cooked in coconut milk and beef stock and Fried Plantains, dusted with cinnamon, brown sugar, nutmeg, clove and chilies. Currant Rolls are featured on the dessert menu and are a buttery short crust pastry rolled and filled with sweet and lightly spiced currants.”
