Navy Yard

Despite Website Issues – Bammy’s (Modern Caribbean) has indeed reopened in Navy Yard!

301 Water Street, SE

“Dear PoPville,

Anyone know what is happening with Bammy’s in Navy Yard? Their Instagram says reopening May 1, but the website isn’t live. I called the number on Google and it was some poor lady who didn’t sound like she was affiliated with the restaurant but had accepted the fact that she was going to get calls about it.”

Bammy’s PR has confirmed that they are indeed open.

Here’s a press release that was issued earlier:

“Bammy’s at Navy Yard is reopening as BAMMY’S Modern Caribbean. After the closing of the popular Nay Yard, waterfront restaurant in late fall of 2023, restaurateur Bernard Gibson and former Bammy’s executive Chef Peter Prime saw an opportunity to cease. The two had been looking at potential projects since meeting in 2022 so this transition only made sense. “I’m happy I get to continue to nurture and serve the amazing community of clients we’ve built down here at the waterfront as well as make some new fans of the restaurant,” Chef Prime explains. Slight interior and facade upgrades have been made, including more plush and chic banquet seating, wall sconces and more space at the bar, the high ceilings and structure of the dining room still provide an airy loft-style feeling. The menu will still be Caribbean inspired but with nods to the multitude of flavors found throughout the islands. Bammy’s Modern Caribbean will take you on a “cruise” through the cuisine of the Caribbean with fusions of island flavors.

Guests can still expect favorites such as Chef Peter’s famous jerk wings and snapper escovitch with new additions including classics and new takes on modern caribbean flavors. “With the new Bammy’s menu we really play with Caribbean flavor while leaning into techniques such as grilling and smoking. We also brought some traditional and classic favorites from throughout the Caribbean that I’m really excited about,” adds Chef Prime. Starters of note include the holiday favorite from Trinidad and the Dominican Republic; pastels, popular Guyanese street food aloo pie and of course the BAMMY which hails from Jamaica, and comes smothered with pulled oxtail. Guests can also look forward to curry served in beef and goat and rotating selections such as chicken and duck as well as jerk selections including chicken, brisket and pork belly. Downright good grilled cuts come in the form of steak frites and grilled pork chop and a whole BBQ Oxtail. Saturday and Sunday brunch will also be offered with new dishes such as brisket hash, fry bake sandwiches and grilled pork belly and pancakes and mimosa towers featuring Caribbean flavors.

“With the amazing waterfront views and my personal fleet of yachts and boats for charter I was inspired by cruising with the thought of the caribbean fare we’d be serving here at Bammy’s,” says Gibson with regard with his inspiration on the new direction of Bammy’s as Bammy;s Modern Caribbean. “We are excited to build on the success of the former Bammy’s as we breathe some new life into the Waterfront at Navy Yard.”
