“Folger Shakespeare Library crowdsourcing to name new café”

201 East Capitol Street, SE courtesy The Folger Shakespeare Library

From an email:

“When the Folger Shakespeare Library reopens on June 21, we’ll have a brand-new café in our Great Hall. We will offer grab and go breakfast options, coffee, tea, soups and sandwiches, snacks to eat in the garden, and drinks and light dinner fare in the evenings. And while we work on putting the finishing touches on our new dining space, we need your help!

The Folger would like to crowdsource the name of our café.

So, ahem, “what’s in a name?” We’re looking for clever wordplay worthy of the building that houses the world’s largest Shakespeare collection. Poetic turns of phrase that fit having coffee or a snack just steps from our stacks of rare books. An artistic take on having drinks and a bite to eat before going to the theater. We know our community is creative, so send us your ideas! Folger staff will share our favorites starting February 16 for Folger followers to vote on!

We’ve asked for suggestions – lots of Taming of the Brew and Falstaff-inspired ideas.

The DEADLINE to submit ideas is Mon, Feb 12 at 11:59pm (ET.)

Folks can submit their suggestions using this form or at www.folger.edu/cafename

There will also be an opportunity to vote on the finalists for the café name from Fri, Feb 16 – Tues, Feb 20, also at www.folger.edu/cafename.”
