From a press release:

“Planet Word, the nation’s only interactive museum of words and language, will host Enchanted Pages Community Day, a day of free activities for people of all ages, on Saturday, November 18. The festivities mark the expansion of the Schwarzman Family Library, Planet Word’s one-of-a-kind, interactive gallery space that brings beloved books to life. A schedule of events and information about how to reserve free, timed admission, may be found below or ONLINE HERE.

“Planet Word’s 30 interactive galleries and stations celebrate all facets of words and language, but our Library holds a special place in visitors’ hearts. Here, book lovers have a chance to rediscover some of their favorite stories, characters and authors in new ways. We are thrilled to celebrate the addition of 25 new titles and authors to the Library — that’s 25 more chances to spotlight books and authors who tell important stories,” said Ann Friedman, founder and CEO of Planet Word.

A day of creation
Throughout the day, visitors can explore all three floors of the museum, and participate in specially curated, book-themed activities, including DIY bookmaking, a performance by award-winning teaching artist and children’s entertainer Culture Queen, and live art by Chalk R!ot.

A day of connection
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet some of the authors whose titles are newly featured in the Library, including:

Derrick Barnes, Crown, An Ode to the Fresh Cut
Michelle Coles, Black was the Ink
Erin Entrada Kelly, Hello, World
Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow, Your Name is a Song

Author and Planet Word collaborator Pablo Cartaya will also join in festivities. All authors will be available for book signings — see schedule for details.

A day of exploration
Afternoon events include Between the Lines with Jason Reynolds and Tony Keith, Jr., a discussion about the art of storytelling, featuring the acclaimed author in conversation with award-winning spoken word artist and educator Dr. Tony Keith, Jr. Reynolds’ award-winning young adult novel Long Way Down is among the original titles featured in the Library. Due to space limitations, free, advanced reservation is required for this event.

The day ends with a screening of Judy Blume Forever, a documentary about the pioneering author whose honesty about adolescence and the realities of growing up changed how millions of young people viewed themselves. Blume’s Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing is among the 24 titles being added to Planet Word’s collection. Due to space limitations, free, advanced reservation is required for this event.

About the Schwarzman Family Library Exhibit
Located on the second floor of Planet Word, the Schwarzman Family Library is a one-of-a-kind interactive experience that brings beloved books to life. Each of the Library’s books is equipped with a radio-frequency identification chip (RFID) that, when placed on the Library’s Story Table, triggers illustrations, narration and insights into the book and its author.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
