Dagger: “the Gibson will be closing its doors on 14th Street on January 1st, 2024”

2009 14th Street, NW

Not since Marvin closed has there been a more painful closure coming to U Street (adjacent.)

From a press release:

“After 15 years of serving up unforgettable drinks and unforgettable moments, the Gibson will be closing its doors on 14th Street on January 1st, 2024

After opening in November of 2008, the Gibson quickly became a pioneer in D.C.’s cocktail scene. Hidden behind a signless door, the bar offered classic drinks in a discreet and sophisticated setting. Its second-floor bar and lounge became the “it-spot” for private events and cocktail classes. It has stayed true to its roots throughout the last decade, rebounding back after a brief hiatus during the pandemic.

The decision to close was difficult. Owner Eric Hilton is considering other options to continue the Gibson cocktail program at a different location. “It’s truly the end of an era – the Gibson has had a long, great run and will always hold a special place for me. Unfortunately, there are too many challenges to continue in its current form. We are working with our team to look for opportunities to continue the Gibson name in the future.”

The Gibson will host a farewell New Year’s Eve party where customers, friends, and supporters can join in celebrating the legacy of the bar. Tickets will be available shortly after Thanksgiving.

General Manager Jewel Murray says “We appreciate all the support and love our customers have given us through the years, and our team looks forward to seeing you in the coming months to have one last cocktail with us here. It has been our privilege to have made the memories we have at the Gibson.”

The Gibson will be open Monday through Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to close through the end of the year.”

We’re about a month out from summer. That means you’ve still got time for spring cleaning!

Lexi Grant, an operations manager at Well-Paid Maids, shared her go-to spring cleaning tips with WTOP News. Step one? Declutter. Get rid of items you don’t use, find space for items that need a home and organize those areas.

Then, it’s time to dust. Lexi starts with high-touch surface areas (think: refrigerator, dishwasher, counters, microwave). One area she sees often neglected is the bedroom — and it makes sense. Heavy furniture is difficult to move around, but it’s important to really get in there so dust doesn’t affect your sleep.
