From WMATA:
“During the weekend of March 18 – 19, Metro is advising customers of track work on the Red Line affecting two stations and widespread street closures in downtown DC resulting in detours to 24 Metrobus routes and restricting MetroAccess service in the area.
On the Red Line, train service will be shut down for the weekend between Rhode Island Ave and NoMa stations as part of system modernization and to upgrade infrastructure, including installation of new fiber-optic and radio cables for signal systems and emergency communications.
All Red Line stations will be open with trains running normal frequencies every 10 minutes on both sides of the shutdown. All other lines will run normal frequencies. The Green Line is a good alternative for travel to/from Downtown DC with service every 8 minutes. Customers can transfer to/from the Red Line via Fort Totten or Gallery Place. Free shuttle buses will also be available to connect customers between Rhode Island Ave and NoMa, running every 5-10 minutes.
On Saturday, Metrobus and MetroAccess customers in downtown DC may experience significant delays and should allow additional travel time due to road closures for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon and 5K. Vehicle traffic will be restricted from 3 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, and continuing until 4:30 p.m.
Temporary detours will be in effect during this time on 24 Metrobus routes with some routes turning back to operate in two segments. Customers may be able to use Metrorail to continue their trip and reconnect to Metrobus on the other side. Bus fares are free when transferring to/from rail resulting in no additional costs on weekends.
Routes Affected: 16E, 32, 33, 36, 42, 43, 52, 54, 64, 70, 79, 80, 96, D4, D6, G2, G8, H2, H4, L2, P6, S2, S9, X2″
