Yael asked us: “any ideas for host/ess gifts that are: small and packable, can be acquired in multiples, non-perishable, and iconically DC?”

The early replies:

“Depending on price point, DC magnets or prints would be a great option! Lots of wonderful, local artists and DC-themed art at @ShopMadeInDC!”

“consider: mambo sauce that you can get in six packs”

“Try @terratorie (Terratorie Maps + Goods)! Also I know you said non-perishable, but I really love Capitol Candy Jar

“I love gifting the neighborgoods kitchen towels.”

“Go to is a visit to @hillskitchendc where they have a ton of great host/hostess gifts.”

“It’s cherry blossom season. You can find tea towels at the Smithsonian gift shops – they have tons of stuff worthy of hostess”

@SaltandSundry has plenty of options”

“White House Christmas ornaments. DC street map etched glassware (rocks, wine, etc). A go-go CD.”

“High quality stationary and journals from @appointedco – they have a line embossed with the DC flag”

“Cordial at the Wharf has 200ml bottles of Civic Vodka and Borough Bourbon, both from Republic Restoratives, DC’s own women-owned distillery”

“Old Bay (it’s not just enjoyed in B’more). Bonus: It’s not fragile or a liquid. Bigger grocery stores more have two sizes to choose from for your best price point. Add a tag noting what they can try it on: Mac & cheese, popcorn, any fried sweet or reg. potato item, pierogies….”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
