From a press release:

“Bar Lab continues their partnership with Generator, the leading lifestyle hybrid accommodation brand, launching the second Hoja Taqueria within Generator Washington D.C. located at 1900 Connecticut Ave, NW. The acclaimed Bar Lab team is consistently recognized for their unique, inspired food and beverage programs with Hoja Taqueria being no exception.

Echoing Hoja Taqueria’s ethos centered on corn, Bar Lab and Generator brings this concept and its sustainable sourcing approach to the capital city in Washington D.C. Guests can expect all the tacos served on corn tortillas freshly made in-house using masa from corn sourced directly from family-owned farms in the state of Oaxaca in southern Mexico. To repay the labor of love these family-farmers pour into cultivating this heirloom corn, a portion of Hoja Taqueria’s profits goes directly back to the farmers to create a supportive and sustainable farm-to-table cycle.

“Hoja Taqueria was created through our passion for the flavors and indigenous ingredients of Oaxaca, but also with the mission of maintaining respect for those local families that help bring this food to life,” said Bar Lab hospitality partners Gabe Orta and Elad Zvi. “The Generator team have been such supportive partners and understand our vision, that it was an organic next step to open our second Hoja Taqueria at their D.C. location.”

The partnership’s new location will seamlessly introduce their traditional Mexican tacos, burritos, and quesadillas, appealing to travelers and locals alike. Guests can enjoy the authentic, artisanal cuisine in the new restaurant’s indoor, outdoor, and bar seating area. The DC location will also offer a seasonal patio and pool deck. The full-service indoor dining room features a bar program that focuses on select and rare agave spirits and can accommodate up to 65 guests. The innovative Mexican-inspired cocktail menu is crafted by renowned Bar Lab Bar Director, Christine Wiseman,’Best American Bartender’ nominee at Tales of a Cocktail. Using authentic flavors, spices, and ingredients, drinks like the Corn Porn and Hoja Taqueria Margarita perfectly complement the food offerings.

“We are ecstatic to continue the partnership with Hoja Taqueria within our Generator property in Washington D.C. With the success at our Miami location, we were thrilled to bring a slice of Oaxaca to the capital city. We are convinced that the restaurant addition is set to be the new dining and social destination in the Dupont Circle neighborhood, where guests and locals alike can experience exciting and authentic Mexican cuisine,” said Alastair Thomann, Chief Executive Officer of Generator and Freehand Hotels.

The restaurant’s eclectic style, designed by Nazly Villamizar of Space Collective, brings in the rustic aspects of a traditional Oaxacan casona (ranch), incorporating a variety of natural exotic materials and objects. The inclusion of nature in the space is a major part of this project. In this case, reclaimed wood plays a fundamental role in communicating the team’s profound respect for the environment and Mexican roots. The green on the walls represent the color of Peyote that inspired most of the mystic imagery used and talks about the deep connection between the rich spiritual human mind and the hands of the campesinos (farmers) who harvest our ancestral corn.

Hoja Taqueria DC is open daily from 4:30 – 11:30 PM.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
