“Dear PoPville,
I had a very bad day today (like, cried-in-front-of-my-boss bad) so I decided to take my dog on a long walk to clear my head.
I took her back near Waterside Drive in Adams Morgan (where she has been off leash with other dogs dozens of times before) and she immediately disappeared down the trail into Rock Creek, past the horse stables, and I have to imagine into traffic on Beach Drive. I just wanted to say thank you to the fellow dog owners who helped me look for her and especially to the Good Samaritan who rescued her by probably pulling her out of traffic. I was a crying mess by the time I found him with the dog so I don’t think I thanked him properly! (And yes, I won’t be letting her off leash again any time soon – so I’ll add apologies to any readers who may have dodged a white and brown shepherd mix on their commute home on Wednesday.)
