“Covid is a crazy virus and although breakthroughs are extremely rare, they are happening. If you aren’t vaccinated, please do it – my case has been so mild in comparison to what it could have been.”

Thanks to Will Todman for sharing his Breakthrough Covid experience:

“I tested positive for Covid-19 today – a breakthrough case. I’ve been fully vaccinated since May and as a result have only had very mild symptoms. I wanted to share my experience just in case it helps others detect if they might have it too. Also, get vaccinated!

I woke up on Sunday morning with a headache and a runny nose.

The runny nose isn’t unusual because I have allergies and this year seems to have been especially bad for that. And I assumed the headache was a hangover because I’m in not in my 20s anymore.

But then I woke up in the middle of the night with a sore throat on Sunday, so got a test on Monday. The rapid test came back negative but I got the positive PCR test results this morning. I felt a bit fatigued and groggy Mon. and Tues. but am already feeling better now.

The @_DCHealth were amazing and extremely diligent when they called me – carefully walking through my symptoms, everyone I’ve come in contact with, and explaining what I need to do now. They’ve already contacted everyone I could have exposed.

The frustrating and unnerving thing is that I don’t know when or where I got it. Others around me have tested negative and although I’d started going out and doing things again, I’ve been wearing a mask when inside and not actively eating/drinking.

All of this is to say, Covid is a crazy virus and although breakthroughs are extremely rare, they are happening. I’m lucky in that I caught this pretty early, am now isolating, and hopefully I won’t pass this on to anyone else.

If you aren’t vaccinated, please do it – my case has been so mild in comparison to what it could have been.

If you think you have a cold or a persistent headache, go and get tested! I’d recommend getting a proper PCR test if you can – the rapid one didn’t detect my case.

I should just make a caveat that I have no medical training and am only narrating my own experience here. Just because the rapid test didn’t pick up my case, it may be adequate/more accurate for other people! “

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
