967 Florida Ave, NW
I saw a Vespa wipe-out in front of the new Whole Foods on Florida Ave NW because of a major slick of water that is omnipresent in the road. Thankfully the Vespa driver was OK and did not sustain any injuries. Since at least July when Whole Foods opened, water has gently seeped onto the street from a manhole in the middle of Florida Ave, just north of W Street NW.
It seems to have worsened in recent weeks and I can no longer walk my dog there without him having to swim to the curb. As temperatures drop in the winter, ice will inevitably cause major traffic incidents. I’ve reported this to DC Water several times in the past few months and called Whole Foods to urge them to pressure DC Water, too. They’re usually very good about fixing water issues, so perhaps it’s a jurisdictional issue (i.e., the road crew damaged the infrastructure). Anyone know what else can be done to fix this disaster waiting to happen?”
