From MPD:

“On 5/13/20 at approximately 12:27 a.m., officers were patrolling H Street NE when an adult male victim flagged them down to report that he was in the 1300 block of H Street NE when an unknown suspect walked by him, doused a shirt with an unknown flammable liquid, lit it and threw it on him. The victim was able to flee the scene without any injury. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’5″ and 150lbs, wearing a tan coat, blue jeans and a black hat.

At approximately 01:11 a.m., police were called to the 900 block of H Street NE for another report of a fire.

On the scene, officers located an adult male victim who had suffered burns to his lower extremities, in addition to his personal belongings being destroyed. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries. The victim was unable to provide a description of the suspect[s]. However, due to similarities between the two incidents, they are considered to be related.

These incidents are being actively investigated by detectives from the MPDC and DC Arson Task Force. Should anyone have any information about either incident, please contact the Metropolitan Police Department’s Command Information Center at (202) 727-9099.”
