“That’s when he got upset and proceeded to unapologetically and shamelessly call me a chink multiple times.”

Ed. Note: In these days when some Chinese related stores/restaurants are having difficulty attracting customers due to fears over coronavirus – let’s not let this spiral out of control. It is never OK to call someone a “chink” just as it’s never ok to call anyone a racist slur. We need to be kinder to each other now more than ever. This is just a reminder that this is happening. I’m closing comments because I can anticipate and there is nothing to talk about. This is not OK.

“Dear PoPville,

At 11:45am-ish (Wednesday), I was at the 7/11 at 14th and O near Thomas Circle and Logan Circle in DC.

I was walking inside this 7/11 with my bike; I saw the assailant behind me and even tried to hold open the door for him. I immediately got in line, when I see him go ahead of me.

He tries to cut in front of me and I told him I was in line. That’s when he got upset and proceeded to unapologetically and shamelessly call me a chink multiple times. (I’m not even Chinese – I’m Cambodian American and I was born in Wisconsin).

The cashier did not say or do anything, even when I prompted him to. After I turned off the video, the assailant got up in my face, trying to be physically threatening. I walked away at that point, because I’m not stupid enough to get into a physical fight with an irrational person.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
