“Loyalty Bookstores & Willow Join Forces To Bring A Kid’s Room Pop-Up To Upshur Street”

843 Upshur Street NW

From a press release:

“Loyalty Bookstores (827 Upshur Street NW) and Willow (843 Upshur Street NW) are excited to announce their latest partnership: a Kid’s Room Pop-Up inside Willow!

The Loyalty + Willow Kid’s Room will open on Saturday, February 1 inside of the currently unused space in the back of Willow’s shop, and will be fully decked out for children and families. The Kid’s Room will feature children’s toys, books, and games for sale, space for youth to read and play while parents shop, and ongoing children’s programming–including Loyalty Bookstores’ ever-popular Storytime and Singalong with Bearsong. In addition to the Kid’s Room Pop-Up, Loyalty Bookstores will have books for adults in the front of Willow and will also be supplying books to Willow’s Navy Yard location (1331 4th Street SE).

“We’ve had a great experience partnering together on birthday parties and the Reading Reward’s program through Lulabelle’s,” says Julie Wineinger, owner of both Willow and Lulabelle’s on Upshur Street. “We are excited to partner with Loyalty Bookstores to bring books and additional programming into Willow for the winter and spring.”

The pop-up will be open for winter and spring while the Petworth Citizen & previous Loyalty Bookstores spaces (829 Upshur Street and 827 Upshur Street) are being reimagined and renovated to become a bar / event / bookstore concept that is being developed. Loyalty Bookstores hopes to be part of the future concept once it re-opens later this year.

“We are looking forward to further growing the children’s selection of both stores and embracing all of our smaller Petworth neighbors with books, games, and a welcoming “please touch” environment,” says Hannah Oliver Depp, owner of Loyalty Bookstores. “We will continue to provide excellent, diverse and inclusive books for all ages along with Willow’s beautiful clothing and gifts to make sure our neighbors are served.”

The bookstore will have their normal hours between January 21 and January 26, and then will move to evening-only hours between January 28 and January 31 before the Kid’s Room Pop-Up opens inside Willow on Saturday, February 1. Loyalty Bookstores’ memberships, gift cards, and orders are safe and further details of the partnership are to come on the Loyalty website.

“We are eager to keep a bookstore experience on Upshur Street while 829 & 827 undergo renovations,” explains Depp, “and we’re fortunate we’re able to accomplish that between our partnerships with The Lemon Collective, the Petworth Library, and Willow.”
