Multiple readers reported around 5pm yesterday (Wednesday):
“H street closed. Cyclist being strapped into gurney *right* in front of the H street ghost bike. Report is she hit the tram tracks, went over the handlebars, and was subsequently struck by a car. Driver fled. some signs of movement but blood everywhere. Head injuries. Helmet crushed. clearly not good, and on way to hospital. Really Not good. Heart goes out.”
When we spoke about this @PoPville on twitter right after it happened many obviously wished the victim well and also urged a warning like Simon:
“The trolley rail is a death trap for cyclists, even for those who try to steer clear of the rail. A car forced me to suddenly merge into the trolley lane and I was thrown from my bike, fracturing my arm.
Cyclists should try to avoid H St at all costs.”
I’ve been asked for updates on the victim’s status but unfortunately haven’t received any updates. Will continue to monitor and update when/if more is known.
