From an email:

“After celebrating its first two weeks welcoming in guests, Taqueria del Barrio will be adding reservations and updating its hours. Guests can now call Taqueria del Barrio at 202-723-0200 or email General Manager Mikey Torres at [email protected] to reserve a table. Taqueria del Barrio will be open from 4pm to 12am on Tuesdays through Saturdays, and 4pm to 10pm on Sundays; a lunch and brunch menu are expected to roll out in the coming months.”

I went this past weekend and this place is awesome. My one beef is the bar stool to bar height ratio. I felt like a baby in a high chair with my food at shoulder level.

We got the wrong ones delivered, have replaced them with the correct height stools! Thanks for coming by!!

Wonderful, keep up the great work! I will definitely be in for some more “Not Today Satan’s” soon.

    Kid friendly?

I was there last night and they had 3-4 items on a kids menu. Off hand I don’t recall what they were.

I think so–haven’t eaten there yet but stopped by last week while walking along Upshur Street, to review the menu to see if it had items my kids might want to eat. When I explained to the manager what I was looking for, he pointed me to the kids’ tacos on the menu, which are regular adult sized tacos but just have meat & lettuce, nothing spicy or fancy. I definitely felt like our whole family will be welcomed when we finally do make it there (& we’re much more likely to go now that we can reserve a table!).

Thanks for the hours. I was planning to take the kids there after the park next week while they are on spring break. I guess they will have to wait until summer.

Nice, can’t wait to check this place out, love her food!

Kid-friendly, with 3 or 4 options on the kids menu and high chairs are available. Not too great for vegetarians. I really wanted to like this place but I found the tacos to be over-priced for what you get, the menu pretty limited, and although the server was friendly, everything felt just a little bit “off”. I probably won’t go back, given that Mezcalero and Habanero are both WAY better.

I’m looking for a place to go with a group of about 10 — they’re all visiting DC. I’m usually weary of new places (as they get the kinks worked out) for big groups. Anyone been there with a group? Any insight?

I was there last night around 8:30 with 7 of us. We had no problems. They gave us separate checks, at our request.

  • Margarita

It’s a nice option for the neighborhood. I thought the food was ok but the drinks were too expensive starting at $12. I had the taqueria del barrio margarita and didn’t like it and it was their cheapest cocktail. They need a house margarita at a better price point.

Really looking forward to checking it out. Being from the southwest, this has been the one thing I have felt Upshur was missing. I hope it is as good as I think it is going to be! (Though I have no reason to doubt it will be).

Of course we’re all quite excited about this in Petworth. First visit was so-so. We saw the eensie teensie tacos and decided to skip. Quesadilla was decent along with the corn and torta, guac portion was all off for the price, would skip that next time. But what was most upsetting was the “Draft” beer not clearly marked as less than a pint. Like WAY less, maybe 10 oz. If you only have $8+ drafts, make sure people are ready to pony up for tiny beers. For $60+ for two including drinks, we’ll go to Ruta. Cocktail was very good, so they do have that going. Overall I will give it another try in a few months, but don’t see it as a potential go-to.

And it’s WAY kid-friendly, lots of kids there when we went.

  • not impressed

I was not impressed. Service was so slow, and the server kept saying “Oh, I’ll go check on your food” even after it had been served, we’d eaten it, and our plates were cleared. Obvious lack of attention there. I also didn’t know it took 20 minutes to pour a beer in a half-empty restaurant. You can use the excuse of needing to switch a keg once, but the other times there was no explanation. Also, not full pint pours, so really over priced on the beers.

Also, I ordered the veggie torta. It clearly mentions mushrooms as one of a few veggies on the sandwich. It came with no mushrooms. I mentioned this to another server (ours was inattentive), after taking a couple of bites and realizing it. He took my sandwich and brought it back, two bites still missing, with just a few mushrooms thrown on for good measure. Extremely disappointing. Not worth my $12. I won’t be going back.
