Major progress at Reliable Tavern!! Their facebook page says opening Winter 2017 – looks like it’ll be worth the wait:

“Reliable Tavern aims to be your classic, professional, neighborhood tavern with two floors, pool tables, live music and dedicated nights for the science and queer community of Petworth and greater DC. Food will be provided by Republic Kolache, an amazing and delicious pop up food vendor who will have a home with us. Keep an eye on our social media for updates!! We look forward to serving our community!”

“Their facebook page says opening Winter 2017” — I’m not holding my breath on that one. It’s been almost two years since we first heard that Reliable Tavern was coming to this space:
… and a year and a half since they put their awning up:
And more than seven months since we saw that they were building the bar within the space:
Don’t get me wrong — I’m looking forward to this place opening, and I really want to like it. But I’m a little frustrated that it’s been taking such a long time, all the while tantalizing us.

I felt the same, but supposedly the owner who was the real driver of the project had a serious medical issue causing the stagnation. If there’s any truth to that, they get a pass from me…

Very cool! Any idea what’s taken so long? The front sign has read “Reliable Tavern” and windows have been covered by paper for years now.

    The science community ?

    • Bric

Sign of the times – the stigmatization of scientists by the party in power.

      • Ross

Yeah, this is great. All too often I see scientists in bars ostracized and made fun of to the point that they run out the door sobbing. It’s nice to see that they’ll have a safe haven in this place.

The science community has not had a place to hang out since Science Club closed in Dupont

Can we get a night for the queer science community?

  • Nancy

So those are separate nights for the Science and Queer community? Or is this one night only for scientific queer community?

  • Elkhaert

    Arbitrary lines are arbitrary. :)
