Still no comments on this? Which house is it?

  • Nearby

It was 1702 Lamont, which is the second house in from the 17th street corner, on the south side of the street. That four-house section does not have alley access in the back, and apparently the fire department had difficulty reaching the fire. A note on the neighborhood listserve mentioned that the pedestrian right of way had been gated–I don’t know if locked or not. The same source said the fire began because of grilling on the deck.

yes re the origin of fire – i was a witness across the alley from the fire, in a house not part of that row. from an open window on that side of the house, directly across from the back of 1702, i could smell the barbeque from at least 630. we heard sudden loud cracks and pops abt 945, then saw fire already going from ground floor level where barbeque was to (and through) deck above. also, there was a lot debris on ground level, old furniture, etc. thank God no one was hurt or worse!
