End of an Era: Lawrence’s II Petworth Carryout Closed

3937 Georgia Ave, NW

This one hurts. Lawrence’s II Petworth Carryout was located at the corner of Georgia and Shepherd St, NW. One of the few spots left that were good and cheap. Perhaps it was inevitable but it still hurts. Cause in addition to the good grub were the kindest faces. Petworthian captures it best “Gonna miss the ladies”:

This is a tragedy. Loved running in for a fried egg sandwich.

I never even noticed this was open, I just assumed it was another empty storefront! Every time I walked past it looked closed, I never saw anyone in there.

  • Brian

I didn’t think it was closed. There was a sign in the window that said it was closed for renovations.

Hold up, last time I talked to the ladies, they had to close temporarily because the building owner wanted to renovate. They were considering moving to the Epiphany BBQ space during the renovation. Are they closed closed??? Their fried chicken and collards was delicious and they were really nice.

I hope they move or just renovate. Petworth needs a good quick breakfast spot like this.

  • ChenChen

ahhhh cant believe i never tried it.

They were so nice! I hope they reopen. With the Epiphany site sitting empty, it would be a really good move.

I never checked this place out — the exterior didn’t look very inviting — but given the recommendations here and in the linked thread from 2010, I hope they reopen!`

This is depressing. When I first moved to Petworth eight years ago from the South, they were my hangover go-to, and a place to go when I missed home. Seriously simple, delicious and reasonably priced. And the people were so nice. Ah, the times are a’ changing.
