944 Florida Avenue, NW

On Friday a reader wrote in asking about the decline in quality at Bling Blind Dog Cafe. Some readers were outraged, outraged that such a question be asked in a public forum. Turns out something was definitely going on. This morning Washington Post Express reports:

“On Jan. 8, Blind Dog Cafe in Shaw will cease operations and become Union Kitchen Presents, a rotating platform for local restaurant and food start-ups. The first pop-up to occupy the space will be Timber Pizza Co., a mobile pizza vendor set to open a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Petworth later in 2016. The Blind Dog Cafe’s coffee program will carry over.”

Does this mean that BlindDog/Union Kitchen will be taking over the building full-time instead of splitting time with Darnell’s?

    • 10thSt

Per the DCist, Darnell’s will remain open.

man, this is such a bummer. i had read the thread about the decline in service but i’ve been popping in for lunch on the weekends at least once or every few months for years!
i hope the chocolate chip cookies live on…somewhere…

You can get the Blind Dog cookies at the Union Kitchen Grocery store on 3rd and F NE. Those glorious, glorious cookies.

It was a sort of tucked away location. I’d love to see them re-open in Petworth. There is a need for more low key, family cafes and bakery’s.

Blind Dog I will miss you so!

  • PopOverWork

RIP #Baxtercantsee. I will miss you and your goat cheese.

Blind dog’s service and coffee have been absolutely miserable for months. RIP Blind Dog, you will be missed, but it is time.
