I took Metro and didn’t even know about the barricade situation until I read about it at 10:45am. Note to self: driving to work can be pretty awful.

Okay but let’s be honest here. Taking Metro to work is usually much worse. I’m almost surprised the red line didn’t have a melt-down today.

A few years ago there was a water main break, and I was stuck on a bus in that tunnel for 30 minutes. I’m not usually claustrophobic, but after about 15 minutes I was ready to scratch my eyes out.

This is one of those chicken-and-egg situations. If Metro were better, people wouldn’t need to drive, and wouldn’t be stuck in the tunnel. And if people took Metro more often, it would be better funded and maybe not work as badly (gigglesnort). Still, I have a hard time feeling sorry for people who commute in DC and get stuck in traffic; you were warned that the congestion will be bad.

Of course, I moved to San Francisco recently, where the transit problems are similar, but approximately 10x as bad.
