2737 Sherman Avenue, NW at Girard

Happy to say progress continues at Hilltop Bar & Restaurant coming to the corner of Sherman and Girard St, NW. For those who don’t recall this spot, we previously learned:

“And like Saloon, The Hilltop Restaurant and Bar will focus on German beer and other imports. But in addition to the focus on beer the duo also plan to offer a solid dining option. Nothing fancy but comfortable “American fare”. The key to Sam is comfort. Unlike the Saloon, The Hilltop Restaurant and Bar will not enforce (love it or hate it) no standing rules. They hope to keep the atmosphere relaxed and a real neighborhood spot.”

They’ve recently applied for a liquor license:

“New Tavern with Sidewalk Café Seating 25, total Occupancy Load 39.”

Hours of operation on the application are listed as Sunday through Thursday: 8am-2am, Friday and Saturday: 8am-3am.

Updates when an exact opening date is announced.

We once went to the Saloon with a good friend we rarely see. There was little seating and we sat apart (she was at another table). It was sad and weird, but she’s a talker and had a fun time with some new friends. It was an interesting experience. Kinda like the rule and wish more bars would do it.

Sounds intriguing. Has anyone heard anything on the place going in next to Qualia Coffee?

First it was “opening summer”, then “opening late summer”, then “opening january”… area residents can’t wait for this place to open, I assure you. Quit jerking us around with potential open dates and just open, already! Take our money! (In all seriousness, I can’t wait to see what this place offers and do hope it opens its doors much sooner than later.)

I spoke to the fella that runs this place back in December. He let me take a peek inside and explained what they were trying to do with the joint. Seems like a lovely chap. Anyway, he floated the idea of an “early march, when the weather starts to clear up” kind of thing. He seemed reluctant to nail it down, as I’m sure any new business owner in the area would be. But early spring seems to pass the smell test.

this is definitely putting the cart before the horse but, assuming this place is successful it seems like a rooftop deck would make sense, what with the access already there and what would likely be pretty great views of the city from that location
