“Dear PoP,

Just a warning to women riding the metro and exiting at Columbia Heights. This evening at 10:30pm I was riding up the escalator and in front of me was a 5’5” Hispanic male in his 20’s with no facial hair, a backpack, and a smart phone. In front of him was a woman wearing a short blue dress. Near the top of the escalator, I heard the woman exclaim “what are you doing!?” and we all quickly realized he was taking up-skirt photos of her with his phone.

Inspired by some of the recent stories on PoP of people helping out their neighbors, I chased the man for about half a block down Irving street, screaming “Stop!” (my husband was with me.) The look on his face when he realized I was chasing him was priceless. The photo-creeper was much faster than me and I lost him in the dark, but at least I gave him a really good scare. I then told a police officer I saw standing outside the CVS. So, women exiting at Columbia Heights metro: if you’re wearing a skirt, pay very close attention to who is standing behind you.”

UPDATE from the husband of the victim:

“First off, thank you to the couple that chased after the man. She immediately called 911 to report the incident and gave a similar description: Hispanic man, probably early to mid 20s, around 5’5″, short dark hair, and white t-shirt. When she turned to ask what he was doing, his eyes were bloodshot and he sort of smirked. That was all she saw besides the couple chasing him down Irving towards 13th Street.

The police responded to our house within 10 minutes of getting off the phone with 911 and immediately put out a lookout in the area for someone matching that description. Although we know it’s unlikely anything will come of the report, we definitely appreciate the help of both our neighbors and the police.”

No doubt that DC is a city full of people constantly coming and going. I don’t know what the motivation was for the recent sellers of this home, but they had purchased it only back in February of 2009 for exactly what they listed it for this year. It appears they made some improvements, which you can see from the 2009 pics.

The upgrade that stands out to me is the change from the plain ole stainless steel stove to the Viking range. In my experience, appraisers like to ignore the differential of a less expensive stove vs. a several thousand dollar stove. For buyers who cook (I call them my kitchen buyers), that stove could sell them the house.

Ed. Note: Looking for Love Vol. 1 can be found here. If the couples would like to add an update I’ll be happy to post.

If you would like to meet Julia please send a photo of yourself and a brief description to me at princeofpetworth(at)gmail and I’ll forward on the info to Julia. And once again props to Julia for being brave as hell!

Name: Julia

Looking for: Single men in their late 20s, early 30s

Hi PoPville! My name is Julia and I have been in DC for about five years now. The singles scene in DC has certainly been a challenge (ok let’s be honest its abysmal most of the time unless you’re a horny intern)… so here I am.

I am originally from Wrightsville Beach and a lover of all things south eastern North Carolina.. boating, beach bocce and drinking cold beers while boating or playing beach bocce are probably three of my favorite life activities. I am outgoing and I love to be outdoors. I think one of DC’s greatest features is its close proximity to some of the best hikes and running trails I have ever been on. I love being in the sun, but when the cold DC winters descend upon us you can find me drinking happy hour red wine at Proof, cheering for the Tarheels (no Duke graduates/fans need submit responses) and the Redskins (although that has proven to be pretty abysmal too), and praying that the 2 Amy’s line isn’t so long that I have to stand outside to wait. I love exploring all of DC’s neighborhoods, old and new, and I appreciate you for always keeping me in the loop. There is always something new to see and do in this awesome city and I think it would be even better to share those experiences with someone else!

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every morning at 10am.

Thanks to 9:30 Club for offering up two tickets to tomorrow’s Thievery show at the SW Wharf (Kastles Stadium) tomorrow.

As always just let me know why you want to go and I’ll pick a winner at 4pm!

Ed. Note: Last time a reader complained that I only picked heart wrenching stories that can’t possibly be beat by “normal people”. In addition to some heart warming winners, well, I’ve picked winners who’ve entered first, entered last, and other completely random picks. So fear not and good luck!

Also please make sure you have access to email at 4pm to confirm winning. If I don’t hear back in 15 minutes I’ll have to pick an alternate winner.

Lately, I’ve been getting this question a lot so since it’s August – I’ll throw a few polls up for today’s Friday Question of the Day. Generically PoPville is anywhere readers live but many people want to know – what neighborhood you live in (it’s actually the first question I ask folks when I meet them in person), how old are we, are we male or female and are we black, white, hispanic or other. When I meet readers in person I’m always happily surprised to see a big diversity in all those categories above. I’ll be curious to see if they mirror the polls below.

Ed. Note: Unfortunately the poll would be too large to list every neighborhood so I’ve had to split it by quadrant.

It’s always hard to pick the winners but these entries this week made it nearly impossible.

Congrats to Murdoch with:

“A career spent on making smoking seem manly and rugged, and now this. The Marlboro Man wept.”

Runner up to Chalk with:

“The FDA is requiring this image appear on all packs of cigarettes, a reminder of the negative consequences smoking has on one’s image.”

Honorable mention to Sean with:

“As he stood admiring the view, Dave’s lifetime of poor choices were about to catch up with him.”

I’ve probably walked past this house by Logan Circle at least 100 times, I’ve probably photographed a few dozen but this is the first time, probably because I’ve always been focused on their amazing transom, I’ve seen the awesome stained glass all the way up top:
