I saw this bike at the Bluegrass Festival at Kingman Island a few weeks back. Definitely a sweet ride!

I _think_ the second Chinese character in the logo (in photo 3) is the one for “wind.”

Can anyone in PoPville read the first character?

    • elizqueenmama

Actually, it is the character for ‘feng4’ – Phoenix (rather than ‘feng1’ – wind). They are easy to mix up, as they are obviously related – only one stroke difference. The first character is ‘liang’, which means ‘pretty/beautiful’. So, a Beautiful Phoenix bike it is.

        Cool; thanks! :)

Farmer’s market bikes a/k/a Hipster bikes

That’s a Flying Pigeon. They were a standard bike in China for a long time and there are a number of expats who restore them, like this guy: http://www.behance.net/ThomasYang/frame/1004363

Don’t think this is actually a Flying Pigeon. While one traditional model of the FP has a double top tube, the FP logo is different and very distinctive. Also, Flying Pigeon translates as FeiGe (not LiangFeng).

Here is another great site on Flying Pigeons: http://www.flyingpigeonproject.org/

nice find! I’m not sure I would have noticed the double top-tube just walking past.

  • Are they actually decent, durable bikes? Because quality and Chinese workmanship aren’t always synonymous.

    • dynaryder

They’re ok,but they’re heavy and have limited gearing(singlespeed or three speed),two things which don’t work well with DC’s topography.

  • that basket is terrif, too.

Nice bike but I’ve always wondered which way a bike should be locked to these kinds of bike stands. Most people lock the bikes up so that they are parallel to the stand. That makes it very difficult for two bikes to use the stand.

Should they be parallel or perpendicular? I prefer pependicular but most people do it parallel.

    • JDS

Parallel. Otherwise the adjacent bike racks wouldn’t be usable.

I saw this bike on one of the tweed rides and just love it. So classy! And I’m excited for bikes to be included in the sweet ride feature!

  • TC

Sweet! Can’t wait to see more!
