You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every morning at 10am.

I’ll echo a question raised earlier in the week – anyone know a fun place to watch some Tour de France cycling?

rant…i am so over my job right now. i guess i’m just in a funk, but i am seriously over it.
rant…looking for new work. what a nightmare.

    • Sleepy

We have almost verbatim the exact same rant and raves. Stay strong!

  • Anonymous

rant: People that can’t drive and probably shouldn’t be driving

rant: I need a new job that’s in the city so that I don’t have to deal with the above

    rave: Friday!!

  • Susan

Meridian Pint is showing the tour on delay in the afternoons

  • Anonymous

    rant: GD MF mosquitoes!!!!

  • Kam

I’m saying what’s with all of the non-driving idiots as of lately? I just don’t get it.

Why are you trying to turn on 7th and H when there are 50-11 signs saying no turns?

Why are you trying to turn right from the middle lane and then looking at me in disgust because I am honking you so you don’t hit my car.

Why do most of you damn bikers want equal rights on the road but you don’t follow the most basic of laws of the road? FYI, your bike is considered a vehicle and you are not above the law. It is all fun and games until you get smacked with a 2 ton vehhicle.

Back to the drivers, why do you bad drivers (financee’ included) insist on turning in front on oncoming cars only to be stopped in the middle of your turn by pedistrians crossing the street? I f’n hate that, that is how my car got totaled because some idiot driver not yeilding from a turn lane but stopped in the middle of the road because low and behold pedestrians were using the crosswalk. By the time I got to the intersection I could not stop and hit her though it wasn’t my fault, she got the ticket for not yeilding. FYI, I could not see her because there were a lot of other cars and she tried to dip through but…

I am not even going to get on you damn taxi drivers that drive like you are stalking a pedestrian preventing me from continuing my legal rate of speed all because you are trying to honk fares down which I have never seen work by the way. If someone wants a ride I am sure they will signal you.

And you fn busses that think you can just merge and take over occupied lanes because you are a bus.

OK, I think I am done now.

Oh one more rant, getting blown out in soccer, yet again. I truly need a new team with at least one more skilled player. This is the worst, actually the worst part is that none of them seem to mind losing and think they are out there for fun. What the hell is fun about getting blown, never having a chance and only really getting cross half field when I take the goal kicks?

    • mv

Agree that pretty much everyone on the road is a moron. But about the soccer thing… Are you in a rec league? Cuz if you are, you either shouldn’t take yourself so seriously or find a more advanced league. Recreation = fun, which is probably why they “think they are out there for fun”. I’m playing in a rec/fun league, we’re awful, but we still have a good time. I’m doing it for the exercise and to spend time with my friends, even though I absolutely loathe soccer and whiney soccer players (not all, just the whiney ones).

    • GDopplerXT

Agreed, but I cut the buses some slack. Noone wants to get stuck behind a bus and therefore noone ever allows room to let buses merge.

    • If you are not professional, and are not betting on your team, what are you out there for?

    • Kam

Oh I totally get it about the team. I never complain to them and am a great team player. I realize not everyone is up to my skill level and I do realize that it is rec ball so I keep it in perspective. It is just I am not used to this on any level. I believe you can still have fun and want to win, look at all the teams that are killing us every week. LOL! No but seriously, I am not that guy and I am thankful for them giving me an opportunity to play but this will be my first and last season with them.

Rant: I need to find a salon that is affordable and knows how to handle black hair.

    • GiantSquid

I, myself, am not black and therefore do not have black hair, but I found Bang to be reasonable in price and have heard that several of the stylists at the Verizon Center location are skilled with black hair (being black women themselves.)

    • Anon

What do you consider affordable?? Are we talking relaxers or cutting? I haven’t found anyone who can cut mine yet, but have had some luck with relaxers. I totally feel your pain.

      • needasalon

i can find places that will do a wash and wrap for 35. i am having trouble finding places that will charge under 60 for a touch up

    • Kam

My financee’ goes to the Dominicans in AM at Giovanni’s (1802 Adams Mill Rd) (202) 797-9251 . I think it cost like $35. Both her and her sister go every week and their hair is always on point. If you go, ask for Sylvia I think and tell her Aisha referred you. Good luck.

      • TGIF

Urban dictionary defines financee as “Someone you are engaged to strictly for financial reasons.”

        • Kam

The fact that you referenced this word via urban dictionary says enough.

Rant: Sprayed OFF! all over the place except for my hands…and now I have a bite on my hand! On my HAND! Ugh, the worst part of DC summers…

Rant: Manfriend is going through a tough loss and it pains me to see him filled with such sorrow. Wish I could ease his heart.

Rave: Wedding of a close friend tomorrow, pretty excited. She’ll have a piñata at her ceremony. I will win!

  • Eyeless in Gaza

    Dear PoP,

I would like to know why the former Cafe Toulouse-Lautrec, a long-time icon of Adams Morgan and the District nightlife scene itself, has just been sitting there being boring for nearly 15 years. It seems pretty absurd that the owner can just keep paying sky-high taxes on this without any business income…

  • Lizz S

Rave: Mom has a conference in DC this week, so she’s coming in tonight so we can hang out!
Rant: It’s going to rain while Mom is here, boo.
Rant: Moving in a week and half my help fell through. Is it too late to hire movers if I find the money?
    Rave: My new apartment!!!

    • P’worth

Craigslist! Never too late. I’m sure there are a bunch of college/just out of college kids who could use some cash and will carry all your heavy stuff.

    • jules

I hired movers about a week and a half before the move… if it’s on a weekend it’ll be a little bit more difficult, but weekdays are a lot easier.

    • MAR

2 Marines and a truck…inexpensive, flexible, honest, careful and they did an amazing job when I booked them last minute for my move.

  • Anonymous

Rant: Nats pulled a boner last night after an amazing 7 run 3rd inning. That was a fantastic inning!

Rave: The back and forth kept me in my seat through all 9 innings. First time in a while I’ve stayed until the end of a nat’s game.

  • Anon

    Rave: Godspeed Atlantis

  • Banksy

Rant: G-ddamn tourons who take their double-wide strollers onto the Metro.

Granted it was 10 a.m., so technically rush hour was over, but the train was still packed, thanks to said tourons. If you’re going to bring your sidewalk plow onto the train, at least have the sense to move it out of the way of the door that you’re parked in front of when people get on and off.

  • GiantSquid

Rave: Got to talk to Mr. Squid last night!

Rant: Being broke makes it hard to do work in the yard.

Rave: Awesome friends who keep me from being lonely.

  • Rant- Employers who enjoy playing temp idol by pitting people against each other Hunger Games style to see who wins the “prize” of the perm job at the office, therefore winning the ability to eat and keep a roof over their heads. Wouldn’t that bring out the worst in people? Yeah, I know someone who went on an interview like that recently…

Rave- I don’t know what I was thinking when I signed myself up for so many Fringe volunteer shifts, but I am glad I did!

  • JMidwest

Rave: The Dalai Lama is giving a free teaching on the Capitol lawn tomorrow. It would be quite amazing to see him in person.

Rant: Evidently Whoopee Goldberg is emceeing it. Really? That totally cheapens the whole event for me so now I may just pass.

    • Banksy

Whoopi rocks! I had little interest in seeing the Dalai Lama, but now I’m thinking of going, just to see her!

  • Rock Creek Churcher

Rant – Michael Morse not winning the all-star votes
Rave – He probably smells like a sweet, sweet daydream

  • victoria

Rave – FRINGE FESTIVAL!!! Lots of great shows. Extra fun festival “pop-up” bar/beer garden/whatever tent at 6th & New York NW (2 blocks from Convention Center metro – next to Marrakesh restaurant – around the corner from Passenger)
    Good inexpensive food too.
