Biergartenhaus to Open Soon!

by Prince Of Petworth April 26, 2010 at 11:30 am 13 Comments

In a city that seems to have an endless supply of new restaurant/bar openings, this one is definitely the most eagerly anticipated in my circles. Biergarten haus is located at 1355 H Street NE.

In the meantime don’t forget about Old Europe at 2434 Wisconsin Ave, NW in Glover Park which has been serving the city schnitzel since 1948…

German beer is GREAT. Second to none.
    German food is HOOOOOOORRRIIBLE!

People who’ve never had REAL German food usually say that.

I can’t wait for this place to open!!!

I didn’t like the food in Germany, but I think you need to be someone who really appreciates meat in order to enjoy it. The falafel sandwiches at the Doner Kebab places are pretty good though.

          You do indeed.

(Yeah, my family is German, and yeah, I love the food.)

      This is so untrue.

German food (in Germany) is amazing. Especially this thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schweinshaxe

It’s also nice that every German corner has Doner Kabob!

Mmmmm, as a huge fan of both German beer and food, I’m really looking forward to this one! I love the look of the new place, too – the front of the building looks very German, too, especially with the window boxes. This will be a great addition to the area.

  • Go to Cafe Mozart if you need to get your kraut on, but forget Old Europe. It’s worse than Hitler.

  • Matt

I would like to second that Old Europe sucks.

Both Old Europe and Cafe Mozart suck. You can’t get decent German food in this city. What you eat in DC doesn’t taste even close to what they serve in Germany, retaurant or homemade. I will definitely try the Biergartenhaus! I have high hopes!

The last time I went to Old Europe there was a blind woman playing the piano, and frat guys making fun of the blind woman playing piano. Stay classy Georgetown University!

    • I think that might have something to do with DC not being Germany.

  • Looks like a great place to lose an iPhone prototype!

Popping fat sausages, brined cabbage and fried pounded meat – if you’re trying to get some gourmet points here – well, dissing German food is kind of like shooting pickled fish in a barrel of sauerkraut.
