Parking Woes again

So the city decided to install these barriers to prohibit parking behind one of their abandoned buildings at the corner of Vermont and U St NW. People (including the people who work in the area) had parked there in the past, but the City decided to prohibit parking. This created a situation where cars now park in the lane of travel on 9 1/2 St (making it from a two way road to a one way road) and the police will do nothing. they say “there are no ‘No Parking’ signs.” since when do you ned a no parking sign when cars block the travel lane. I guess they decided to spend the tax dollars to inconvenience people yet again?

Police activity at 12th and T NW

11/17/2015 at approx 12:30pm

I counted six MPD police cars on 12th Street NW, between S and T (Garrison Elementary School nearby). The cops were heavily armed, running towards a house, while others surrounded a nearby alleyway.

I’m curious if anyone has details on the incident.

Overnight Parking in the District

What are the easiest ways for a visitor to park overnight in the District? Are there any reasonably priced overnight garages? Are the metro parking garages in VA/MD safe for overnight parking? My apartment complex has visitor parking, but it is expensive and first-come-first-serve, so I’m hesitant to rely on this.

I also have a visitor parking pass, but worry about my guests being ticketed if they have not gone through the ROSA exemption process yet. Am I understanding correctly that DC parking enforcement does not ticket for the first sighting of an out-of-state vehicle? In that case, street parking may be a viable option. Does anyone have tips or tricks for overnight street parking?

Bikes Stolen from 14th and Belmont, 1 Recovered from 14th and Harvard, 1 Missing

Here’s a photo of the missing bike. It’s the one on top of the pile with turquoise handlebars. Here are some more details about the incident:

Unfortunately, my house at 14th and Belmont (lower Columbia Heights) was robbed on 10/21 at about 11:15am and the burglars made off with two of my bikes (as well as several laptops from my housemates).

After the police took off, I headed up to the Columbia Heights metro trying to see if I could find it. Sure enough, I came across some high school kids who had my commuter bike (a Giant Rapid Pro from 2011).

I managed to unseat the guy riding it and scare them off at 14th and Columbia, just a few blocks south of the Columbia Heights shopping center. I’m pretty sure that these guys live at the housing projects between 13th and 14th on Harvard because they were hanging out in the parking there lot for several minutes (police took about 15 minutes to respond). Thankfully, I now have the Giant back.

Unfortunately, my road bike is still missing. This was a custom lugged steel frame that I made myself. It’s unique in that the frame is grey and doesn’t have any logos, graphics etc. The handlebars are a distinctive turquoise color. It has a Reynolds fork, Shimano Ultegra components, and Bontrager tires. I built it as a project with my dad several years ago when I was in high school, so it has huge sentimental value to me. Here’s that link to the photo again.

Any tips about where to post to recover a lost bike would be much appreciated – I’ve already heard of about 5 new forums just through talking to folks about this.

Summary: My grey road bike with turquoise handlebars was stolen from my house and may be located in Columbia heights area, specifically on Harvard or Columbia Street between 13th and 14th.

I’ve called the number listed on the Maketto pop-up (formerly Hanoi House)’s website and emailed the email they provided to ask this question, to no avail.

Here’s my question: will there be karaoke this Saturday at 10:30 PM as usual? Does anyone know anyone who is involved in the new restaurant? Apparently it’s supposed to be open this weekend, but will karaoke be happening?
