Red, White and Basil “serving freshly-made pasta” coming to Adams Morgan

1781 Florida Avenue, NW

This is the former Hans Pedr Kaffe/Locolat space that closed back in January. A new liquor license placard for Red, White and Basil says:

“A restaurant serving freshly-made pasta as well as beer and wine. Entertainment may include background music and occasional DJ. Total number of seats: 17. Total Occupancy Load: 18. Total number of Sidewalk Cafe seats: 20.”

Updates as they get closer to opening.

While I am excited for what sounds like a quality Italian place, which DC seems to have very few of, I can’t see how this small space is going to work for a restaurant. Even when locolat was there it was impossible to get a seat some days.

    • My thoughts exactly. 18 person capacity? Love the concept but that bit makes it sound like getting a table will be nearly impossible.

    • If you’re looking for good quality Italian places, Pasta Mia is like 3 blocks north at 18th and Colombia. Word is they’re closing soon, so maybe this upcoming place can fill the void that’ll create, but for the time being there is very good Italian in this area already!

  • I like the name!

  • Concept sounds great! Look forward to the new addition.

  • If it’s set up like a fast casual rest instead of full service, it could work…

  • How will this be able to compete with Spaghetti Garden?

We need a Semolina in this berg.

  • Benvenuto al quartiere!
This will add a nice eating option to our little as-yet-unnamed emerging neighborhood where lower Adams-Morgan, extended Dupont Circle and far eastern U Street corridor all converge/overlap. With the addition of the new condo building just a few hundred feet away on Florida at Champlain, there should be lots of new prospective diners. Agree that such a small space will have to be able to turn tables quickly to survive with so few tables.
