1416 14th Street, NW just south of P Street

Back in June we noted that the former Carry Out Deli would become an Asian Restaurant featuring Thai and Chinese dishes. We’ve got a name now – 14th Cafe and they’ll deliver:

This place is a real stunner. I anticipate some really interesting new options in dining here that will set it apart from the rest of the establishments on 14th. Congratulations and good luck!

    • I feel a little bad for them that their menu in the picture has some stereotypically cringe-worth grammar. Can’t get their website to load, though. What kind of new options set it apart?

Sorry, I was kidding. Their restaurant looks stupid and bland. That said, it is genuinely nice to have something on the block that costs less than $25 for an entree and isn’t a Chipotle…

        • What are you even talking about? This block already has Thai Tanic, Baan Thai and Great Wall Szechuan House, serving (really good) options IN THE SAME CUISINE under $25. Not to mention Commissary, Teak Wood, Stoneys, Lalibela, Sweetgreen, etc. And you can even get in and out of Pig or Logan Tavern for under $25, if you simply check the prices before you order. But yes, aside from those dozen options or the massive grocery store, someone living in this location might have to walk two or even three blocks to find additional meal options under $25.

          • Sadly, why on earth would you go to any of those mediocre EatWell places or Teakwood. Yes, there already are good Asian options and a stereotypically bad one across the street, but the general area is filled with overpriced, underwhelming places and it would have been nice to have something different here.

            Uh oh – flame war.

  • Still trying to figure out why they put both cafe and bistro in their name.

Despite the over saturation of Asian cuisine in the immediate area; I think all these places clean up on take-out orders Sunday – Thursday.

  • I would’ve just went with the sign they had before it opened and called it “Asian Restaurant”

  • I actually have somewhat high-hopes for this place. Looking at the menu, it has a decent amount of authentic Chinese food items (Mapo Tofu, Twice-Cooked Pork, etc.), and could in theory give Great Wall Szechuan House some competition for decent authentic Chinese food on 14th street.

Having said that, it’s entirely possible that it will just have those dishes be “protein in brown sauce” and be like most other corner Chinese restaurants.

    • ^ Me too! I saw they had Zhajiangmian and Beef Stew (which they don’t have at Great Wall). Here’s hoping it is somewhat authentic.

  • The Logan Circle Community welcomes 14th St Cafe Asian Bistro to the neighborhood.

  • I ate there last Saturday. It was really good! Not greasy, staff was nice…. I did suggest that they play music and buy dimmer switches! I wish them the best of luck!
