A reader reports:

“Fare gates down – free ride at Farragut north. Pitch black too – all escalators down.”

Around 4:15 wmata tweeted:

“Farragut North: Station experiencing a power problem, impacting station operations, no delay to Red Line. Main’t en route. 4:10p #wmata”

How do you get out if you don’t use a fair card to get in?

    • I didn’t tap my card at Farragut and I just walked out the emergency exit without tapping when I got to NoMa. No one said a word.

  • It isn’t free. I was told to tap my card as I left Friendship Heights after having started from Farragut North and it deducted $1.75. I don’t know if they have a way to just charge a default amount in those situations but that was what I was charged.

  • It’s a free ride until you either exit or try to re-enter the system. A metro manager will fix your card at that pt.

  • Just left this station….got there at 5:45. Yes, you heard that correctly. 45 minutes to get on a train because the station is absolutely packed and overflowing with people, plus all the cars pulling up are stuffed with people. Lots of people left without getting on a train at all. Another day, another hour+ commute despite “Trip Planner” saying it should take 15 minutes.
