The Rat is Back, This Time in Front of National Geographic

Thanks to a reader for sending:

“This was erected as a protest of Cindell construction in front of the National Geographic museum [1145 17th St, NW]. According to the flyer ” they do not meet area labor standards and fail to pay employees wages and benefits determined by the government to be standard for our area.”

Ed. Note: We last saw the rat at Connecticut and Military Rd, NW.

  • Does the rat have a public space permit? Just asking.

    • I doubt it, but I think this is so cool. I am wondering why they’ve left it up. I am worried they’re just waiting for the person to come back and claim it so they can arrest/ fine them.

  • The carpenters are behind this and many other protests. There are few union drywallers in the DC area and they often charge several times more than other vendors. When they don’t get hired they hire people to protest and inflate the rat. It’s frustrating. They are basically blackmailing every company that’s doing construction.

    • Someone could always accidentally bump into it with a sharp object…

      • That would be very unwise. You don’t want to mess with these people.

        • As long as they hire unionized thugs and hitmen, it’s all good.

        • Setting aside that intentionally destroying property is a crime and a crappy thing to do, what’s with the warning about messing with “these people?” This isn’t Boston, NY, Providence, Chicago, etc. where messing with union members will get your ass kicked. They’re pretty toothless here. Besides, the people at these rallies aren’t even union members. They’re hired hands whose only job is to make noise. Go ahead and ask one of the picketers about the finer points of carpentry and revel in the blank stare you get back.

  • They Have Bigger RATS in my Neighborhood!!!
