  • It looks impossible for them to be ready in one week given the condition of the building.

  • Even if they provide a couple weeks training in Gtown I doubt they’ll be ready to open the store.

Anyone know if they’ve gotten rid of the metal fence?

I still haven’t been able to make it to the “gelato lab” or whatever it is they’ve got behind Union Market, but a friend went recently and said there were only like 3 or 4 flavors, and they were like $8 or something? I guess I totally misunderstood the point of what that location was supposed to be.

    • I’ve been once, and they had sundaes for $7-8 and individual “flights” for $3. (Flights are more or less single scoops served in a Chinese-style soup spoon.) You can also get push-pops and pints from the freezer.
I believe the point of the location is to open up a retail front for their manufacturing space, which is a noble goal . My only problem with the place were some impractical details, such as the aforementioned soup spoon, which isn’t the best ice cream delivery device, and the small water jug that is empty as soon as they refill it.

  • June 1st seems like a wildly optimistic opening date. But, whatever, I’m excited to have another fancy ice cream option in the hood.

  • I wish they would open a store in Petworth. Upshur would be perfect for a gelatto/coffee shop.

  • It’s such a gorgeous, high-visibility corner building that I’m so happy it’s finally being renovated. I love the details of this place. And Dolcezza is a good old-world concept fit. I’m sure it’ll be successful there.
