Newtown Kitchen & Bar opened up last night in the former Tabaq space at 1336 U St, NW.

“Our seasonal menu showcases market dishes by Chef / Owner Howsoon H.O. Cham crafted from ingredients supplied by local farmers, fishermen & meat ranchers from Frederick Maryland to West Virginia. Master Mixologist Seembad Jaudally of Ciroc Nation created one of U Street’s most distinctive and fresh bar program to compliment the restaurant’s modern concept.”

  • I just followed the link to read the original post on this restaurant, and I was immediately turned off by the Unnecessary capitalization of Random words in Their press release. (Not to mention using the phrase “most unique.”)

  • So the drink menu (I just can’t bring myself to use the phrase “bar program”) was designed by someone who works for a supplier? Is this common?

I imagine that branding considerations would trump taste in an arrangement like this — not a good thing. And that’s not even getting into my opinion of Ciroc itself (not good).

  • seasonal … crafted … local … Mixologist … concept

  • Kind of an awkward name given the mid-December timing (though it looks like they’re spelling it “New Town” — with a space — on their awnings).

  • “NEW TOWN : a planned urban center created in an undeveloped area designed to serve a mix of residential & commercial needs.

  • A little pricey but the menu seems very down to earth and not pretentious, welcomed addition. I look forward to trying the place out

  • It’s New Town, not Newtown.
