Thanks to a reader for sending word that Taqueria Habanero is coming to 14th Street, NW between Spring and Quincy St, NW right near Red Derby. Looking forward to seeing if this is the real deal. This space is formerly home to Utopia Nails and Spa which abruptly closed back in March. Updates as the Taqueria gets closer to opening.

  • Terrible news. Where will I ever find a good salon/nail spot in this neighborhood now?

  • seriously? ANOTHER Mexican restaurant in the area? boring.

  • epric002

cause we totally need another taqueria on 14th st :/

  • This could be really good or really bad. I hope we get more details soon. When is the new bar on the corner coming?

  • I have hopes. But more importantly, what’s going on with the sale of Carolina on the corner? I’ve seen no update on that.

    • Good question. Has anyone heard anything about the sale of Carolina? Sooner the better.

      • Ship them all to PG County huh? You do realize the patrons of that establishment have probably lived here far longer than you right?

  • Hey I’m happy to have a taqueria to frequent half a block away rather than some other new BS spot with inflated prices like Mad Momos and the like

  • From what I hear of Carolina there was a buyer, but the sale was not completed and there are rumors that they have a case in court. The noise from Red Derby at night is getting worse than Carolina.

  • Dear Owner of Taqueria Habanero:
If you want a license to print money – that means IF YOU WANT TO MAKE A LOT OF MONEY at your new taqueria, buy a cheap airplane ticket to San Francisco, spend one day going to EVERY taqueria in the Mission District, take pictures, grab menus, sample burritos – and then come back to DC and COPY EVERYTHING you see.
We gringos will come and spend a lot of money. And PLEASE do not have an El Salvador flag… You want to be DIFFERENT than every other restaurant on 14th. We know what the Mexican flag looks like, and we have all been to San Francisco. Now go.
    TRUST ME.
