1208 H Street, NE
“Dear PoPville,
I was walking down H Street and Souk was closed on a Saturday night. Do you have information if it closed?I enjoyed it the few times I went but it was never crowded.”
I called their phone number and unfortunately it’s been disconnected as has their website.
Souk opened at 1208 H St, NE back in Oct. 2009. Any fans?

Owners say it’s closed for renovations:

But if it’s just renovations why would the website be down as well? That doesn’t make sense.
I went after buying a Groupon/Livingsocial coupon one weekend about a year ago. The food is good and cocktails are okay. The only reason I haven’t been back is the ambiance. The dining area is tiny (maybe 5 or 6 tables) and it just feels very claustrophobic. Someone mentioned they had a renovation done, but I haven’t been there to see it. Overall pretty ‘meh’ in my opinion.
I agree. That place souked.
Current news is that they are significantly remodeling and will be closed for 2-3 months.
I’ve seen them closed more often than not, on and off. I’ve lived in the neighborhood for two years and haven’t ever tried them because I’m never quite sure when they’re open.
Ditto
Good food – good service – they had a big room in the back, so not that small …I think Schwafel mightve stole their thunder …
They lost their liquor license for a little while, some months ago, and as others have said, they don’t seem to have any set hours.
Won’t miss this place. Also wouldn’t miss Liberty Tree, Argonaut (for food; the bar is cool), Boundary Road, or Shawafel. Everything else on H St better stay open. Especially Atlas Room.
Especially Atlas Room.
I’ll make sure to get your memo to the Council posthaste
I was at Queen Vic’s deck overlooking Souk’s back porch three weeks ago and noticed all the utensils, dishware, cutlery and even some stoves were out on their patio, which made me wonder if they were shut down.
the owners of Souke just opened the hookah bar Sahra next door, so they must be making some money (or money laundering for the Polisario Front of the Sahrawi people) Not a fan of their food though–overpriced and not that great.
They had a fire a couple of weeks ago in one of their broom closets – this may have something to do with the current closure.
