This Sign Still Cracks Me Up

Random awesomeness from the 7-eleven on U Street. I’m still trying to figure out what the artist was thinking here…

  • This has got to be one of the worst 7-11s I’ve ever been to. The Slurpee machine was broken all summer, things found at other stores easily were always out of stock, there were no prices on shelved items, the floor was always filthy, and to get drinks you had to pay first to get a cup.

Pretty much all the 7-11s in NW DC are beyond reproach and they need a standards committee to look into them. When you go out to suburban 7-11 stores they have a public restroom, even the one in Silver Spring MD, which is across from a Greyhound Station. There is no excuse for DC stores to treat community residents this bad when they’re backed as a major franchise.

But yeah, the sign is awkward.

    • For what it’s worth… the 7-Eleven on the 1700 block of Columbia Road has seemed decent the few times I’ve been in there, although I’ve never gotten anything other than pizza slices and Slurpees.

They didn’t make me pay before getting the Slurpee cup; I remember that much.

    • re: 7-11 public restrooms: Really? I feel there have been a few times I’ve asked a 7-11 employee if I could use their restroom, and my request was obliged only once, with some prodding. Even a 7-11 in bumF VA on whatever small road that is that parallels 95. I figured they had a general company policy on no public restroom use.

    • the 7-11 at the Noma/NY Ave metro stop has public restrooms.

  • I don’t get it, sorry. How is it awesome? Is this an art project? Which artist?

I’m trying to interpret it as sarcasm, and that almost works until I get to the part about the artist. Then I get confused again.

  • Now THAT should be U Street’s logo!

  • Allison

Looks like microsoft clip art to me…

  • I think it’s a reference to that old adage for folks that have swimming pools…”We don’t swim in your toilet, so please to pee in our pool”

  • No soap, radio!

  • Worst 7/11 I’ve ever been to. Also, only 7/11 I’ve been banned from.
