Homicide Wed. Afternoon on the 1100 Block of 8th Street, NE

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating the fatal shooting which occurred in the 1100 block of 8th Street, NE.

On Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at approximately 3:51 pm, units from the Fifth District heard sounds of gunshots coming from the area of the 1100 block of 8th Street, NE. Officers responded and located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived determined that the victim had no signs consistent with life. The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where he was pronounced dead.

The decedent is identified as 21 year-old Gregory Darnell Troxler of Northeast, Washington, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.

There’s a bunch of drug dealing that goes on around that block. You can tell when the dealing is going on, because a bunch of “youts” will set up shop at one house, lookouts on the corners, and presumably, guys “holding” standing down one of the alleyways a bit. About once every 3-6 months, somebody gets shot and killed. It doesn’t look like a terrible neighborhood overall – just that there are a few bad folks living there who let their places be used as ground zero for an open air drug market. This has been going on for at least 3-4 years, ever since I started commuting through the neighborhood, maybe longer.
