Happy Halloween – Stay Safe – Free Taxi Rides Tonight

Reminder about the free taxi rides tonight:

Together with the Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) SoberRide initiative, AT&T is proud to provide free taxi rides (up to $30) to anyone 21 and over in greater Washington, DC who may be a little stir crazy following Sandy and celebrated Halloween a little too hard.

From 10pm until 6am this Wednesday night, AT&T customers can call #WRAP to get a safe, free ride home, while others can dial 800-200-TAXI. Please note: this is a change from past SoberRide programs.

WRAP’s SoberRide provides greater Washington, DC residents a safe way home on high-risk holidays, including the December/January holiday season, St. Patrick’s Day, Independence Day and Halloween.

  • is this only for AT&T customers?

    • “AT&T customers can call #WRAP to get a safe, free ride home, while others can dial 800-200-TAXI”.

      So, no.

But still, as far as I can tell no one ever actually manages to get one of these free rides home so it probably doesn’t matter who your wireless provider is.

  • PR for the corporations with logos listed on the flyer – nothing more, nothing less. We’ve discussed this ad nauseum and the consensus is that no one gets home via this service.

    • I’ve heard that it actually works… but only if you allow an hour or more between when you call and when you want to be picked up.

Disclaimer: Haven’t tried it myself, so I don’t know one way or the other.

I agree that — given the long wait — its utility seems somewhat dubious. It would be immensely more useful if all D.C. cabs participated, but that’s never going to happen.

I’ve actually been able to get rides through Soberide twice. The wait can be super long, so plan ahead. Call at least an hour before you want to leave. And keep trying. You will eventually get someone.

  • Why do they call it SoberRide? Was DrunkRide already taken?
