Againn General Manager and Partner Romeo Santos Says AGAINN not Closing Nov. 3rd

1099 New York Avenue, NW

Despite the fact that a reader gives a tip and a call to the restaurant confirmed that Againn would be closing their doors downtown on November 3rd, I’ve received an email from AGAINN General Manager and partner, Romeo Santos, who says AGAINN not closing Nov. 3rd.

We judged them back in March 2010. You can see their menu here.

Though their Website says:

  • Nope, won’t miss it. I had a reservation here once on a Saturday around 8ish and they didn’t honor it. 🙁

    • Definitely imagine that which you sttaed. Your favorite justification appeared to be on the web the simplest factor to understand of. I say to you, I definitely get irked while people consider worries that they plainly don’t realize about. You managed to hit the nail upon the highest and defined out the whole thing with no need side effect , other people can take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks!

  • I won’t shed any tears for that place. They were a bad deal even with Living Social.

  • Not at all.. other than pouring a good pint of Guinness, the place sucked.

One vote for No, I won’t miss it.

I only went once; it was one of the loudest bars I’ve ever been in. Standing inside for happy hour was impossible — couldn’t hear a thing. But my friends and I were able to get an outdoor table, luckily; we would have left otherwise. Food was fine (as expensive as lots of other places) and the server was OK. That was a couple of years ago — I’ve just never thought to go back.

  • Not great, not horrible. Ergo, no reason to go back. Not at those prices anyway.

  • Went twice with two completely different experiences. First time was great, then apparently they changed chefs and the food was awful next time around. Considering the prices ($18 for bangers and mash) and average food, I can’t say I’ll miss it.

  • too much hat, not enough cattle.

  • I liked the bacon sauteed brussels sprouts they had there, but that wasn’t enough to make me really want to go back.

  • When this place opened, it was a really terrific take on British pub food. Then apparently they changed chefs, and the menu suddenly started shrinking while the cooking in the kitchen became worse and worse. It’s too bad–I had hoped it would one day turn back to what it was when it opened.

  • It’s closing Again? When did it close the first time?

  • Won’t miss it. Far too expensive for the terrible food they were selling.

  • I always had a nice time there and liked the food, but it was way overpriced without a Groupon or Living Social deal. Sad to hear it is closing, but then again, it was so pricey I didn’t really make an effort to ever go.

  • When this placed opened and I saw the menu and the ridiculous prices for standard pub food, I literally got angry. A silly thing to get angry about, because I knew I’d never go there, but still…the fact that someone thought they could get away with that was just baffling, and my thoughts were that if they succeeded, there’d be no hope for this city. So good riddance.

  • Oh no, not Againn!

It hurts so good, I don’t understand!

  • We planned to have a large party there. It was all locked in… then they changed chefs. I’m glad we went to re-test the food – so incredibly disappointing. We had to cancel and scramble for a new location!

  • Too early for the neighborhood. Once City Center opens, it will all change. I bet we’ll see Cuba Libre close next. (Also their food and service are terrible)

  • Went once; terrible food. No reason to go back againnnnnnnnnn

  • I proposed to my wife with a take out meal made especially for her from Againn.
On another occasion we watch Auburn win the SEC championship at the bar.
And we had our rehearsal dinner before our wedding in the back private dinning section a year later….
My wife and I will miss this place very much.

  • FWIW, their latest Living Social coupon expires on 10/31, so this could be a simple reminder. But I’ve also heard that their days are numbered anyway. I enjoyed the place for happy hour or with a coupon – otherwise prices were definitely a bit steep. I think the original investors had grand plans of starting a wide ranging restaurant group (like NRG) but found that more difficult than they originally imagined – You’ve got to walk before you can run. The Rockville location closed after a year and downtown went downhill. “Gastropubs” are tough sells, even thought people like the combination in other forms. One problem is that people despise the word “gastropub.”

  • I will miss this place very, very much. Great service. Great food. Soup was AMAZING! The staff will be missed – they were the best part of the restaurant.

  • I understand there is a wedding reception there on Nov 3rd

  • I just bought a scotch locker there… damn!

oh wait. why would i have ever done that? Please remind me againn..

  • Lunch yesterday was great–roasted chicken–though overpriced without a coupon. What i like is the nice beer selection–more UK/europe not surprisingly
