what ever happened to those? Did they ever confirm arson, or was it just left as “unknown conflagration of vehicle” or whatever nonsense it was ruled initially?

Bit over a year ago, if I remember right. Several brand new cars mysteriously went up in flames, all fires confined to the engine compartments, and if I remember right it was all within a ~10 block radius.
Actually, looks like it was closer to 2 years ago.

This is why I pay the $145 to park in DCUSA. I’m sure that Explorer in front of the burning car took some damage.
It did, bumper and left rear light were messed up, and the license plate charred, but the car was otherwise fine.
