Standard Closing for Winter From Dec. 5th to March 1st

It’s a sad day for Standard fans, located at the corner of 14th and S St, NW.

From an email:

“standard will be on thanksgiving vacation this week from monday –
thursday, but we’re firing up the smoker and the patio heaters again
friday 11/25 for 10 days of FUN before our last hurrah of the year on
sunday, december 4th

standard will be closed for the winter, from december 5th to march 1st.

thanks to our great customers and friends for a really fun year–we look
forward to seeing all of you before we close for the winter, and again
when we reopen on march 1st, 2012!”

  • I like the big rear ends on the patrons.

  • When it is 75 in January I wonder how much revenue they will pass up? Probably would not offset the losses for being open when it is 15.

Of course, why not get things like seat heaters and blankets for people to use and make it open a little longer?

  • Can they not have a tent with heaters?

  • While I’m sure they could do both of those things, good for them for quitting while they are ahead. Many good memories from this summer and I will be waiting to get back on my bench there in the spring.

  • I took a friend visiting from Europe there this past weekend and he loved it. It was my first time and it was fantastic – sad that now I only have one more weekend to get there! Oh well. My one hope is that the fried pickles are a little better next year – beer battered is the way to go with fried pickles – thick batter, not thin that gets mushy. mmm fried pickles.
