  • “European style” = hairy armpits

  • bfinpetworth

Funny, I see plenty of guys with hairy armpits in the U.S..

  • The landscaping in the front is god-awful. Those trees on both sides of the door are too large for those spots, and that circular area of grass in the middle of the driveway needs some color and interest. And those low shrubs in the corner look like they’ve been puked up by the house.

  • So, I really like the den and library. Other than that, I just kept picturing myself spilling a drink or tracking in footprints. So much beige and white!

    • +1. Reminds me of my scary great-aunt’s house, where we weren’t allowed to touch anything or sit on her white couches!

    • Same here but paint is cheap which if I had $8 mill and bought this place would be the first thing I would buy.

    • +1000 That house is awful – all white and beige. Why is it rich people have never heard of the word “color”?

  • I am gonna date myself here, but I went to the open house the last time this house sold (12 yrs ago in 1999) for 3.2 million.

Yes, DC’s real estate market has changed quite a bit in the past 12 years and yes they did do some (i.e a few rooms) updating and renovations, but I am sorry. There is no way that house has increased in value ~160% in the past 12 years.

  • I wonder if it’s possible to do a multi-million dollar mansion in a style that doesn’t make you think of a hotel.

    • Interesting question. I’d think it has to do with the size of the rooms – take the ‘President’s mansion’ – its rooms are designed to reasonable scale and it doesn’t seem like a hotel (to me anyway).

    • Perhaps modern hotels are styled after historic mansions?

  • damn, you guys are used to far nicer hotels, landscaping, and aunt’s house than i am.

  • Hmm. This never happens, but even though I clicked through the whole VT, I’m completely uninterested in this house or its fate. Maybe it’s just stress.

  • …..and i just came :D

you know a house is silly big when you have a *2nd* family room.
i agree with anonymous (3:04), you guys have a much more blessed existence than i. if there are random superficial things like landscaping, painting, or furniture that you don’t like, guess what? if you’re buying an $8million mansion, that stuff only adds up to chump change.

i must go now, and scour my couch for loose change for the down payment.
