Happy Early Snow Day – Stay Safe, Have Fun!

If we do get a good snow and a day off tomorrow – be sure to send me (princeofpetworth (at) gmail) or upload some good snow photos to the pool.

Submit your photos to the PoPville flickr pool here. Follow PoPville on twitter here.

I’ll be sure to post/tweet if a snow emergency goes into effect (you’ll have to make sure you’re not parked on a snow emergency route!). You can find a map of snow emergency routes here.

A few recent snow related tweets:

If Fed Gov. Closed tomorrow – Meridian Pint will open at 10am!

From Taylor Gourmet Deli: “Snowmergncy Survival Kit” from Taylor Gourmet NOW! 2 hoagies, 2 chips, 2 drinks,1 fritto – for $20.11″

From Blue Banana on Georgia Ave: “Happy Hour is from 6pm – 8pm with $3 Rails and $5 Beers. Post HH will have Snow Day Shot Specials!”

And of course a snowball fight has already been scheduled for Dupont Circle tonight, Wednesday, January 26 · 8:00pm – 11:00pm. Let me know if you hear of any others tomorrow!

Unfortunately at my house it’s still raining…

Update: It’s now snowing…a lot.

  • So this is the “official” snowball fight, meaning they got a permit? What makes it official?

  • Why does the “official” site still refer to 2010 – aren’t we now 3 weeks into 2011?

  • If the gov. closes, we will open at 10am with 19 beers on draft over 9% abv.(15 over 10% & 4 over 9%) Our lil’ gift to those that gotta stay home from work.

  • It’s costly to not respect these Snow Emergency Routes.

These snow emergency routes in our nation’s capital are strictly enforced by ticket and towing. I think the ticket is $250 plus towing costs and storage.

We went through this almost a year ago during the Blizzard of 2010 with this popular post that garnered 127 comments back in February 2010:

Yes, I think all bloggers should post once a Snow Emergency is declared.

    Thanks, PoP.

I’m currently reading through some of the extensive climate warming denying literature and I must admit right now it sounds to me quite appealing and more and more convincing.

    • Oh People. I hope you are home now. It is SUCH a mess out there.

I hope you are okay neighbors.

      • My 12-mile commute took 8 hours last night. I didn’t get home until 11:30 and was scared I was going to run out of gas the last 2 hours of the drive. Since the traffic was barely moving, and the snow was still falling, people had to keep getting out of their cars to dig themselves out. What a nightmare!

  • Nice to finally meet PoP at the Looking Glass Lounge. JJD talk too. Yummy stout.

64 Stuck in front of CVS, sliding car on Georgia, tree limbs down here and there, one atop a nice VW from NY. Trees signs fences wires all coated.

Home, got flickering lights, wire part way down on Illinois. Flare. Another flicker, where are the candles and flashlights? 😉

  • $3 and $5 beers? Shouldn’t it be the other way around?

    • Whether it’s $5 beers and $3 rails or $5 rails and $3 beers, that’s a pretty shitty happy hour.

      • So what would be a “not shitty” happy hour?

        • Are you seriously defending a happy hour where the beer is barely discounted?

          • I’m not defending anything. Just asking you to be productive and if you are just going to shit on some bar doing business without giving any suggestions on improvement I’m going to call you out on it. I haven’t been to the place yet but only heard good things outside of Yelp/POP Reviewers who tend to mostly only write negative reviews. From what my co-worker who has been there a few times tells me all of their drinks and beers are $8 or less. On Thursday all the beers are half-off. During the weekends a bunch of beers are $2. My question is how much cheaper do they need to go to make YOU happy. I’ll answer for. You probably can’t even afford their $2 beers. So stay home on your computer and keep responding.

          • Yep, you got me pretty good. Are you the owner or just a manager there?

  • Clearly it worked because the $3 Rails & $5 Beers Happy Hour the bar was packed last night. At first I didn’t love the Blue Banana but now I’m really warming up to it. We had a fun time last night. Probably going back tonight for the 1/2 Price Beer Night. I like getting Dogfish for $3.50 a pint.
