Dear PoP – Spice Indian Bistro Opens Downtown

“Dear PoP,

I wrote to you back in August to ask about the Spice Indian Bistro coming to 17th and Penn. NW. Well, it’s finally open, and I had a chance to try it today – wanted to let you know that I think it’s a really good addition to the neighborhood. The food is pretty tasty – not gourmet or anything, but flavorful and perfect for quick takeout. I particularly liked the chickpeas. The staff is friendly and fast. And they give you a huge bowl of food (two lunches’ worth) with warm bread and chutney on the side for $7.99 ($8.99 if you order meat). For $4 a meal, I thought it was a really good deal. Hope you and the readers enjoy it!”

Sounds like a great lunch option for those that work nearby. Thanks for the update!

  • Creative name. Many brains churning in unison to come up with that one.

  • Do you have a link to a menu? Can’t seem to find it.

    • I don’t think they have much of an online presence yet, but they had at least 7 or 8 options, you pick three. Yesterday they had chickpeas, spinach, dal, a seafood dish, a couple of basic chicken dishes (butter chicken, tikka masala, that sort of thing), and a lamb dish. But it probably rotates from time to time.

  • I work near the one on Vermont, my coworkers say the food is good but the portions are stingy. At least for lunch I think the menu rotates.

  • I just got back, from lunch there, I enjoyed it. Had lamb ($1 extra) with spinach and chickpeas with rice. Very friendly staff. I’m just glad to have something new in the area that isn’t another crappy by the pound buffett.
