  • I lived in Woodley Park up until 2006 and enjoyed going to Sake from time to time, particularly when I had friends in from out of town.

  • at one point there was a “coming soon” sign for sake club on irving street (near commonwealth). i assumed that it was relocating – any word on that?

    • Irving Street location fell victim to the economic downturn. Was planning on opening there in addition to the Connecticut Avenue location but that’s exactly when credit crunch hit small businesses.

  • Guess there wasn’t room for two sushi places on that block. Toni always had better sushi, but I’ll still miss Sake Club. Hopefully a new restaurant fills that space.

  • Shame. Extremely stylish place with beautiful touches, wan model type waiters, gorgeous handblown glassware, etc. Good sushi, very good sake list…think that was their specialty. Hate to hear when anybody goes bust. Hope they did relocate.

  • With Tono being a few doors down I never went to Sake, but I am a huge fan of Tono

    • ah

Same, and Tono’s prices can’t be beat. I realize price isn’t everything–sometimes style is–but I couldn’t ever bring myself to pay that much more for style.

  • Come to H St. We’ll take anyone. As for competition, there’s sticky rice, but it’s mediocre at best.

  • The sushi at Tono was better, but Sake Club wasn’t all that bad, and it was probably the prettiest sushi restaurant in town. They would go the extra mile in presentation, as well.

  • I really really enjoyed Sake Club, their overall ambience was so classy and zen and the sushi and sake were top notch. They will be missed.
