Judging Restaurants – Shanghai Garden

Shanghai Garden is located at 4469 Connecticut Ave, NW. I love the look of these old school Chinese restaurants. It kind of reminds me (on a smaller scale) of the classic spot in Cleveland Park that is now becoming a Walgreens:

Folks on Yelp seem to like it. Any fans out there? Worth the trip to Van Ness or only if you’re already in the area?

  • I love it. The people are warm and friendly, and the food is yummy! A great neighborhood spot.

  • free soup bar at lunch is worth the trip. on a scale of 1-10 for am-chinese food. I’d say 7.5

  • When I lived in the Van Ness area, this place was a saving grace. Eat in or Take out the food was always delicious. If my memory serves me right, they are closed Sundays which was a huge bummer for the football days or after a long weekend where I didn’t feel like cooking. Much better than Charlie Chiangs which is literally across the street.

  • my wife and i love this place!

  • I absolutely love this place. For the longest time this was the only place in the area to get a good meal. It’s like eating with your family. The owners are wonderful and always remember you. I don’t live anywhere near them now but I drive all the way across town to eat there or pick up some carryout on the way home from work. I think I’ve had just about everything on the menu.

  • By far some of the best Chinese food in the city. Try the Kung Pao Chicken or the Imperial Wonton Soup.
