A reader also sent a link from WUSA9 news:

“At around 7:30 p.m. DC Fire and EMS received a call of a fire in a building at 329 Rhode Island Ave in Northeast DC. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they encountered heavy fire conditions on the top floor of what officials believe is a vacant, unoccupied residential building.”

  • Oh no! I was walking home right at that time last night and heard/saw so many fire trucks heading that way… guess this was the problem.

  • I took a cab home last night, using Rhode Island to get home, and I was wondering why a police car was blocking the street. Horrible.

    Thanks for the info.

  • neighbors seem to believe that the upper floors weren’t necessary vacant—there might have been people squatting there.

also, there were (are now? not sure if they’ve been booted because of this) businesses on the bottom floor along the 4th street facade.
