Thanks to a reader for the heads up:

“I noticed this morning that the old furniture/home décor building next to Wendy’s on Ga. Ave. is finally getting razed. Most of the back of the
building was down today.”

Petworth News also relays news of an event with the mayor their Monday morning. It says:

“…the District and its development partners will transform the site into Georgia Commons – a facility to feature new housing units and a new health clinic.”

  • The site of the old S & H Green Stamps redemption store demolished, huh? Wow!

To this day, whenever I pass the mall, I think of those days and smile.

  • I would never go for any kind of medical treatment on Ga Ave. To me this is a net negative for the community. At least from a homeowner’s perspective. I would have loved to see more retail.

  • Agree with Nate. Put the clinic on the 2nd floor and retail on the ground floor. Please.

  • Tear down that sketchy Wendy’s too!!!

  • I, too, am disappointed about the clinic. Probably because the developer promised a gym when they presented their plans to the community for support. Can’t help but feel a bit like there was a bait and switch.

  • Thanks for the info. The address 3910 Georgia Avenue NW has been retired in the Washington, DC’s Master Address Repository (MAR). Please see .

  • I always dreamed they would put a bowling alley there. Not like Lucky Strike, but a good old fashioned family bowling alley with leagues and cheap eats. Good wholesome fun. I love bars, restaurants, and retail . . . but we need things to do. Bowling alley, golf driving range, batting cage, an arcade with skee ball . . . anything. Is there anything like that coming?

  • Agreed!!! I truly was hoping some place I’d want to walk to — family style restaurant, coffee shop, box store. we need nice retail in petworth.

  • What is wrong with a Clinic, just don’t call it a Clinic. Just call it outpatient services @3900 GA avenue. People in the hood with STDs need to be treated also.
