    I’m bored shitless…. 🙁
I’ve been doing different things, but still bored…yawn! With all the news of how hard it will be to see anything dealing with the inaguration…I feel like I should just watch it from home 🙁

I’m about to have 4 days off of work. 🙂

I’m going to spend those 4 days organizing rooms at home 🙁

  • Is it just me, or has it seemed like there is a noticeable uptick in violent crime in Petworth/Columbia Heights/Parkview lately? Just the other day I called 911 to report gunshots and later found out that it had been a driveby shooting on Warder Street. I think there was a mugging on Quincy last week too. And there was an assault in the Family Food Mart (on New Hamp across from the Metro) a few weeks ago.

  • Also, I’m sick of hearing news about how bad armageddon the inauguration is going to be.

  • I think the “Best place to have a morning cup of coffee” feature needs to be spiced up. How about “Best urban sniper’s perch?”

  • Are all the residents really leaving town for the inauguration? My boyfriend is convinced we’re the only ones not fleeing the city as it becomes swarmed by tourists. But I don’t think it’s that big a deal.

I plan on stocking up on groceries and firewood and hanging out at home. Anyone brave enough to actually venture out there?

  • Rant: “Hey landlord, you know how I called you about 3 times to ask you to have someone seal up those holes by the radiator because the exterminator said thats where our mouse problem was coming from? Welllllllll ya didnt. I came home yesterday and my room reeked. Long story short, a mouse got caught in my radiator and fried itself. I spent my Wednesday night getting that sucker out of there and now my room smells worse than the kid from Slumdog Millionaire that fell in the massive pile o’ crap. Quite uncool. So. About that rent check….”

Rave: 4 days of inauguration goodness with events and friends galore!

Rant: Those 4 days will end with me still sleeping in my room/mouse cemetery.

Rave: Bruce Springsteen will make it all OK by bringing some Jersey goodness to DC!

  • Rant: My body is still sore from dodgeball on Tuesday 🙁

Rave: It’s the freak’n weekend, baby I’mma bout to have me some fun!

  • rant: i thought the neighborhood ball was supposed to be for the “everyman”- dc middle class residents who did everything they could to support obama who now want to celebrate their hard work with him. i wanted to get tickets so i called jack evans’ office (of course, since we don’t have a senator). they had 20 tickets but gave them away before they even had them in their possession. now the only way i can go is if i pay a fortune for *free* tickets on craigslist. as much as i love jay z and the other celebrities coming to town for this occasion, their presence just makes it harder for us to get access to stuff like the neighborhood ball, and of course, drives up the prices of scalped tickets. can you tell i’m mad about this? i’ll be watching everything from my couch.

  • Rant: I didn’t know you could wear this many layers and still be this cold.

Rave: I can’t wait for my crazy southern friends to get here so we can do this thing up right!

Also, y’all, all the extra people is totally doable. If New Orleans can do it at Mardi Gras, DC can do it.

  • anonymous 1:17pm…at least you will be warm and have your own personal space!

  • Rant: My office is FREEZING! I’m wearing two sweaters and cupping my hands around mugs of hot water just to stay warm. Also, I think my boss has it out to get me. Won’t even look me in the eye.

Rave: TODAY IS FRIDAY!!! And it’s a FOUR DAY WEEKEND!!! Huzzah!

*Duke of Monroe: Your Slumdog reference really made me laugh, but I do feel for you. I know the smell of dead mouse sitting for days…can’t even imagine the smell of fried mouse.

  • Scuttlebut division, from a post on CH News, the former Christian Bookstore next to Allegro (discussed here off and on) will be according to its liquor license application a restaurant called “The Social” or “Columbia Social.” Serving lunch, dinner, outdoor patio and sidewalk seating …

  • For some reason, my comments aren’t showing up. Boo.

  • rant: Just realized that I missed the announcement for the Neighborhood Ball tickets
rave: I may have to throw my very own inaugural ball in my living room!

  • Rave: Less than 100 hrs and W will no longer be running the country.

  • Anon 3:05

Make that “Cheney will no longer be running the country.” 🙂

  • im grumpy >:(

hopefully the gym and 20% off sale at go mama go will help!

  • anyone ever try to call a cab in petworth?

my visitor didn’t feel like metro-ing or waiting on georgia in the cold for a taxi, so she called Diamond Cab Co at 6:35 wednesday evening. after a long wait for a dispatcher, he said it would take 5-20 minutes, depending on taxi availability. 45 minutes later, when we called to check on the taxi, we were told the same thing. we decided to try a different company, DC Yellow Cab, and again waited on hold for 5+ minutes before reaching a dispatcher. they gave us the same guidance — 5-20 minutes, depending on availability. at 8:40, more than 2 hours after our call, Diamond called back to ask if we still needed a cab (we didn’t, my friend got a ride home). Yellow Cab never called or showed.

have others experienced this? is it the neighborhood? did i call the wrong companies?

  • Rave: It’s finally Inauguration Weekend! Woot Woot! Screw the crowds…I’ve been waiting to damn long to leave town for this.

Rant: I’m a federal employee that is actually working Monday!

  • 900sQuincy: I bought a car years ago due to DC cabs. They suck, are unreliable, and often ask you how to get to whatever destination you want to go to. The final straw was when they picked up a special lady friend of mine to take her home, then suddenly dropped her on Georgia Ave, screaming at her to get out of the car. I had to borrow a friends car and go get her late at night, she was relatively freaked out.

Moral of the story: they suck.

  • Rant: I will not be in town for inauguration. I will be in Vegas. I know this should sound good but it isn’t. I WANT to be here on Tuesday. I have to work. At any other time this would be an OK work trip, but not now. I am mad. And not only that, I don’t get to take advantage of the MLK holiday, and the inauguration day off. I feel resentment towards my boss and everybody else I work with because of this. There. I said it, finally.

    No rave.

A bible bookstore selling alcohol? Incredulous! If I had any respect for religion, it would be gone after reading this…

  • Believe it’s a *former* bookstore.

  • Rave: new job is pretty sweet, got out 2 hours early today, have a 4 day weekend.

Rant: it’s freaking cold out. BRRR.

  • RANT. Since when do Black Cat dance parties sell out? Apparently, since the masses of check-out-my-striped-dress-shirt-and-khaki-pants-asses got here for Inauguration week. Way to ruin my outlet for lack of sex frustration, tourists.

  • Hey duke of monroe, try stuffing steel wool in the holes around your radiator. Mice hate that stuff as it’s like barbed wire to them. Believe me it really works, I had the same problem with the hole around the gas pipe to my stove and have not seen a mouse in the kitchen since I did the steel wool thing.

  • true dat, drewlove. or the spray foam stuff- $5 at home depot (but it’s permanent).

  • Dos Gringo’s still sucks and isn’t worth a damn.

  • I think the Bad Girls Club rented my neighbor’s apartment for inauguration & someone’s “popping-off” in there…
